Living With OPMD | An Online Health Community
OPMD - oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy is a rare disease. Living with it is challenging. It is a slow progressive form of muscular dystrophy that affects certain muscles. It causes ptosis (droopy eyelids), dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), and potential muscle weakness in your upper legs, hips, and /or pelvic area. It is hereditary, so getting a firm diagnosis requires genetic testing.
It's hard to find groups that offer support for this disease. If you have this or you care about someone who does, I hope this group will prove to be a helpful and safe place for you.
